Dr. Miles’ areas of expertise include strategic management and entrepreneurship with specific interest garnered toward how institutional or environmental factors influence firm strategy. Working in the financial and banking industry, Dr. Miles experienced first-hand how the external environments influenced trade activity and fund strategy, which motivated her to seek further understanding of these relationships. Her research focuses on how economic environment conditions as well as community relationships influence firm decisions and strategies, with particular interest in entrepreneurial firms. In addition to this line of research, Dr. Miles also studies technology and innovation management within the biotechnology industry. In this line of research she focuses on how external relationships influence innovation patterns and outcomes. Her work has appeared in journal such as Research Policy, Journal of International Management Reviews, and Asia Pacific Management Journal, as well as the Academy of Management Conference proceedings.
