Tarek H. Selim is Associate Professor of Economics, tenure, and Associate Faculty of Business Administration at the School of Business and Economics of the American University in Cairo (AUC). Dr. Selim is Faculty Affiliate to Harvard Business School’s Microeconomics of Competitiveness Program and Associate Member of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation MIT Industry Studies Research Program.
Professor Selim’s core field of specialization is market economics. His specialty spans the areas of market competition, industry structure, game theory, business strategy, project analysis, and the competitiveness of firms, industries, regions, and nations. His teaching experience has been in principles, intermediate and advanced microeconomics, competitive strategy and game theory, managerial economics, mathematical economics, economic development, economic strategies for sustainable development, environmental economics, and executive education programs in competitiveness, business strategy, and economic policy. His research output includes more than fifty research paper publications and book reviews in leading international journals and conferences. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Business and Economics Research and the Academy Journal of Financial and Administrative Sciences. He has received his School’s Research Excellence Award in 2006.
Professor Selim has consulting experience and networks with international organizations such as Ford Foundation, USAID, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Gerson Lehrman Group, Harvard Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Fulbright Commission, and Konrad Adenauer Foundation. He is also consultant to regional and local think tanks such as the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES), Dubai Economic Council (DEC), Economic Research Forum (ERF), and Center for Future Studies (CFS).
Professor Selim has a Ph.D. (USAID Fellowship) in Economics from George Washington University, MBA from Johns Hopkins University, and MS in Economics from Iowa State University. He has received MS in Industrial Engineering and BS (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering with minor in Business Administration from AUC. In addition, he holds executive certificate programs from leading universities such as MIT (Project Management), Harvard (Managerial Decision Making), Georgetown (Financial Planning), Oxford (Environmental Management), and Imperial College (Strategic Resource Planning).
