Position: The Raymond J. Harbert College of Business at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama seeks an experienced and established academic leader for the Department Chair in Finance. Successful applicants will be expected to assume a strong leadership role in the college and the department, with particular focus on leading the high performing departmental faculty and staff, continuing the department’s positive trajectory in research and teaching excellence in undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level programs. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach and maintain a quality research portfolio.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily affairs of the department.
  • Manage the department’s fiscal resources.
  • Oversee curriculum development and class scheduling.
  • Lead the department in recruiting, evaluating, and mentoring faculty and staff.
  • Create and support a culture of research and teaching excellence.
  • Represent the department externally and assist in department and college fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborative work with the chairs of the other departments (Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Systems and Technology), the Director of the School of Accountancy, the Assistant and Associate Deans, and the Dean as part of the college leadership team.
 
About the Department & Programs: The Department of Finance is composed of 14 tenure track faculty, 5 full-time lecturers, and 2 full-time positions devoted to the professional development of undergraduate students. The Department also routinely hires 6 to 8 adjuncts per semester. With over 900 majors, the Department of Finance is the largest department in the largest college at Auburn University. With a very successful Financial Management Honor Society, our undergraduate program boasts some of the most successful placements (many in investment banking) and highest starting salaries at Auburn. The Department of Finance has a Ph.D. program and an M.S. in Finance program, and our faculty have diverse research interests and publish in top-tier journals such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
