Assistant Professor in Business Ethics (Tenure track)

We are now looking for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to strengthen our Organization and Management unit in the Department of Management Studies at Aalto University’s School of Business. In this role you will have a chance to make an impact by designing and leading high-quality research projects, supporting students’ learning and understanding of ethical issues in business, engaging with broader stakeholders, and being a part of a thriving scholarly community at the university.

We are seeking a candidate who has a proven track record of publishing research in the field of business ethics, broadly defined. Although we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, we are particularly interested in individuals whose research interests align with those of our current faculty. This includes work on environmental sustainability, corporate misconduct, corporate social responsibility, artificial intelligence, organizational justice, diversity and inclusion and the future of work.

We would ideally like you to start between August and December 2024. Join us in shaping the future!

Your role and goals
The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant potential or proven ability to publish in top journals in organizations and management (e.g. Academy of Management’s journals, Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Studies) and/or to publish work related to business ethics in other established outlets, such as Business Ethics Quarterly and Journal of Business Ethics.

More broadly, the successful applicant should have demonstrated ability or high potential for:
  • conducting individual and collaborative academic research, meeting high international standards
  • participating in regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences acting as regular ad hoc reviewer, potentially serving as review board member of top-tier journals
  • offering high-quality teaching at Bachelor and Msc levels
  • designing and developing educational offerings at a course, module or program level
  • supervising undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate thesis work

Applicants should hold a doctorate degree or have their doctoral thesis under review, which can be from any of a number of disciplines, provided that the candidate has significant research expertise and focus on business ethics. High proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement for this position. Employment duties need to be performed in Finland.

What we offer
At the assistant level, the tenure track covers two terms. The first term is for three years, with renewal for a second four-year term being based on successful mid-term evaluation. Subsequent promotion to Associate Professor is based on a successful tenure review conducted towards the end of the second term. More information on Aalto’s tenure track system can be found here. The position offers a manageable teaching load and initial research funding (€10,000/year for the first three years of the position), along with mentoring and training opportunities to assist the applicant in meeting the criteria for a successful mid-term evaluation and future promotion to the Associate Professor level.

The selected candidate is expected to start the position between August and December 2024, but another starting date can be negotiated. The position comes with an internationally competitive salary, that is determined based on the experience and qualifications of the chosen candidate according to the salary system of Aalto University. In addition, Aalto University provides its employees with occupational health care services and retirement benefits.

We offer the successful candidate the opportunity to teach and do research in a vibrant and active international community. There are also ample opportunities for cross-disciplinary research and teaching collaboration across Aalto University, as well as for generating societal impact.
  • Meaningful and inspiring environment. We are proud of our purpose to shape a sustainable future. We renew society with research-based knowledge, creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Support, coaching and sparring when you feel you need it.
  • Great possibilities for competence development and learning. We constantly keep learning to find the most impactful ways to empower - and invest in - our people.

Our vast array of professional development opportunities means you will grow and learn, having the chance to participate actively in staff trainings and development projects based on your interests and needs. There is great freedom in your role, and we have a flexible modern working culture. We value work-life balance and wellbeing in all aspects of life.

Is this ok, since we don’t have a paragraph about the unit (left it out since other ads apart from the entrepreneurship job don’t have one!)

Also, is there a new platform for faculty members?

Ok. Maybe we should develop a short text for the future (and also our website). We have a lot to be proud of :-).
